Yay! More pain on Sundays!

For those fellow Lions fans that do not live in the area... I know there are at least 2 of us. And you still want to listen in on the game. The Burton Report has been so kind to post some Detroit Lions Radio Links.

You can see his post

Lions at Rams Preview

Welcome home Martz.

Some numbers for you... Marc Bulger is 21-4 at home as a starter. The Rams are +7 in turnovers. We have not had a sack in the last two games. Isaac Bruce is two receptions away from being 10th all time... and he will get those in 4 days.

I fully believe our D-line will stop the Rams on the ground. But I also know that we will give up big yards in the air.

Prediction...
If Jones can get over 100yds and we only loose the ball, lets say... twice... we can win this game. We have GOT to get some preasure on the QB though!
If you are picking on the spread, take the Lions and 6!

Sometimes you wish you could stop giving a damn...

They lost. Again. To a team that is one of the worst in the NFL. Do you know what that makes the Lions?

What impressed me...
1. Kitna again. Had an even better day than last week. Putting up 342Yds 2 TDs and 1Int.
2. Roy Williams. Monster day with 138yds and 1 TD
3. Jones had a decent day with the total yards... still want to see him break 100yd rushing.

What made me nervous...
1. Kitna's 1 INT. Normally I don't mind an INT in a game like he had. But that one was returned for a TD. Everyone... look at the final score and take that 7pts away from Green Bay and tell me what you get?
2. NO SACKS AGAIN! Wow.... TWO weeks in a row with 0 sacks. While I would like to say the D-line is doing well stopping runs... they really need to wake up!
3. NO INTs for the Lions, against Farve... good game Farve.
4. Giving up a 75 yd pass to Jennings. How bad is our secondary with the injuries?
5. Letting the Pack get 7 - 15 in 3rd down attempts.
6. 14 PENALTIES?!
7. Getting sacked 3 times for -23 yards.

Next week.
St. Louis. The rams beat a much improved Arizona team, in a very very odd ending game. I think both Arizona and St. Louis could beat the hell out of the Lions right now. Look for Holt to have a big game Sunday.

Final Thought.
The only thing we have going for us right now is our backs are against the wall. I seriously think that we are in trouble. Our schedule is medium at best and we are 0-3. Now, I thought it was most likely going to start 0-2, but we really need to get it together. Hell, next year we have to play all the NFC East and AFC west teams... that is going to be a HARD year.

Is Detroit afraid of the endzone?

Sometimes I often wonder if the Lions are afraid of scoring.

Ok, living in Kansas I get to watch the Lions play about 1 maybe 2 games a year. Saturday I went to my Tivo thingy and went to set the games to record... WHATS THIS!? The Lions are going to be on!! YES! Christmas time baby!
Fast forward 24 hrs. I'm in my normal pissed off Sunday mood.

What impressed me...
1. Kitna. He had a really decent day. His passing was pretty much spot on. No INTs, good completion percent and a rushing TD.
2. Kevin Jones, kinda. He did do decent against a hard ass defense.
3. Man, I wish there was a third thing...

What made me nervous...
1. THREE turnovers on fumbles. THREE. I don't care who you are, or who you are playing... you cannot win in the NFL with three fumbles.
2. FOURTEEN penalties!? 104 yards... guys, look at a football field, you gave that to them with the 3 fumbles. I thought we were going to be a disciplined team and yet we look like the Oakland Raiders out there. Jamar Fletcher, you owe Boss 6pts... I'll be looking for that next week.
3. SIX sacks... hmm again we look like the Raiders. What the hell is this crap? We protect our QB like we protect the ball.
4. A missed field goal from 40? Hmm, hope it was windy that day.
5. We converted only ONE of nine on 3rd down. That is unacceptable.
6. The Bears converted 50% of their 3rd downs.
7. The lack of dirt on Rex. Did we even touch their QB?
8. Our secondary is looking realllllly thin.

Next Week.
We host the Packers. Two weeks ago I would say there is a strong chance that will be our first win. I'm not as sure anymore. If I have to pick, I say it will be Detroit 10-7. We have GOT to get pressure on Farve.

Final Thought.
Just a win vs Green Bay is not enough. The Lions need to really stretch the field, lets see some of the famous Martz play book! Show me why I defend Roy Williams as one of the best wide outs in the game! Show me that same defense you did in week one. Show me a grown up version of that rookie that was the first to rush for 1,000 yards. Show me SOMETHING.

Seattle vs Detroit re-cap

Wow... 3 pts. 3. That's it. or you could even say... 12-14 yards and we go to overtime.

I live in Kansas City, so I have to watch the game on NFL.com's tracker thing. Watching as the helmet moves up and down the field graphic... praying that the Seattle helmet stays behind the 50yd line.

I'll say this. I'm proud of our boys and hope the people of Detroit are too. I know we all wanted a win, but loosing by 3 pts in the last seconds of the game to the NFC Champs... sorry folks... I am counting this as a W.

Three things really impressed me about the stats I was following.
1. Stopping Seattle on third down... they were 2-11
2. S. Alexander being SHUT DOWN... take away that 14yd run at the end of the game and he would have been 18 ATT, 37 Yds, 2yd per carry... MVP? Ha not against our hogs baby.
3. The score... good job guys.

Three things that made me nervous
1. While our D was 'great' I think the media needs to clarify... our D-LINE was great... Hasselbeck completed 25/30! And I know he spiked the ball at least once! And no INTs. We need to really shape up our Backs.
2. R. Williams, don't know... did he get doubled? Shut down? Only 3 catches for 36 yds is not how I would like to see one of the best WR in the game being used.
3. The last drive of the game. How many times last year did we see the last drive of the game end up in a loss for the Lions. I hope our new coach pounds it in their heads that we are NOT the same Lions. There are 60 minutes of game time and if you play 57 of them... you will loose.

Next week:
Thaaaaa Bears. Boy oh boy... one of the teams that had an amazing first game we get to play at their house ;). Let's not forget they shut out the Packers... not to impressive. The impressive thing is they looked like they improved! We will need to have the same performance on our D-line... a little more effort by our D-backs, and just TWO big plays on offense. Detroit wins this one by 8.

Final thought.
Kitna. No INT or TDs, 56% completion and 229 yards against a defense that went to the super bowl. Welcome home Kitna.

Is Peter King from Detroit?

Because good grief he is giving the Lions a bunch of credit before they have played a regular season game!

Not only did he pick the Lions to win the division... but he picked them to beat Seattle!

Hmm. I hope you are right bud!

Pittsburgh vs Miami

Am I ever glad that Charlie Batch is not still a Lion. He may have had 3 TDs with 0 INTs but dang he looked like crap. Two good passes all game, thats it.

Note to Detroit. We have to play Miami on turkey day, and the key to beating the snot out of them is on our D line! Daunte looked just as bad as Batch when there were a few Steelers around him... but every time he could take that extra step back, he looked like the pro-bowler of old. Pitt's D line looked like they gave up in the second quarter (the rest of the D picked it up in the 4th though).

So, D-line, get ready. You guys are the key!

Kevin Jones... just line up as a WR this day, Brown is a great back and he didn't do squat against Miami. Lets just line up with 5 wr every down :)

Peter King of SI...

predicted the Lions to win the NFC North! I think it is do-able. Chicago's offense looks better on paper however the QB / RB situation probably will pull them back down to the horrible level they were on last year. How many games can the D win? They will be the team to fight this year.

I don't think the Vikings will be as good as I keep reading.

I do think the Packers will be as awful as I keep reading.

So long Rogers.

I'm going to miss having a skilled WR on the roster, but if it's better for the team... SO LONG BUDDY.

Seriously I hope our new head coach knows what he's doing. I am not questioning him... but I'm raising an eyebrown. After all he has cut two first round picks... I know they have not turned out like we would have hoped... but what are we getting for them. That being said, I'll stand by the coach.

Bills get their first win in the preseason...

...and now we are even... /sigh with the Buffalo Bills. Now I know these games mean little to nothing 95% of the time. I also think the preseason should be trimmed to two games. But the BILLS!? C'mon

Charles Rogers may not put the jersey on ever again. Ok. On one hand I would like to see what this guy could do in a healthy season. On the other I like coaches that make cuts... you can't produce... you can't play. But here me now guys... he will go to another team, and honestly he very well could be a 1,000+ yard WR, so don't get too pissed when the Chiefs sign him and he becomes a star.
